Where will the Swim Center be located?
The Calistoga Community Pool will be located at Logvy Park on the corner of Washington and Oak Streets in Calistoga.
What is special about the location for the Pool?
The Pool will be located within walking distance of both the Elementary and Junior/Senior High Schools and because of it’s location it will be easy to get to by walking, biking and driving. As it will be located next to the ball fields Logvy will be the recreational “heart” of our town.
How big will it be?
The current design includes two pools, a 25 yard by 45 feet wide 6 lane lap pool and a 2000 square foot children’s recreational pool. There will also be a support building with outdoor showers, bathrooms and changing areas.
Why not just build a simple lap pool?
The purpose of the pools is to meet the needs of the entire community. The design of two pools addresses the needs and desires of the adult community while maximizing programming for children and seniors.
What other kinds of amenities will the Swim Center have?
In Phase II we will have a snack bar, more landscaping and a fun slide for kids, to name a few. Many pools in neighboring cities are adding amenities such as slides to their sites. Slides not only keep kids coming back for the unique experience they afford but they are important for kids who are too big for the kids recreational pool and too small for the lap pool. They fill an important recreational slot.
Why is the Swim Center important to the Community?
The Swim Center is an investment i our community. Besides providing lifesaving skills such as swim lessons and water safety, it will provide jobs, promote community interaction, engage our youth in positive activities and will add to the quality of life in Calistoga making it and even better place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
When will the pool be built?
The design has been finalized and the architect Paulett Taggart & Associates of San Francisco is in the process of doing construction drawings. Once these are finished (they are due in June), the plans will go out for bids. The construction contract will be awarded at the end of July. Construction could start as early as the end of August, 2007. The total construction time will depend on weather conditions.
What kind of contributions are needed?
To keep operational costs in line, we would like to raise money for solar panels and geothermal equipment. (See the contribution page to see how you can help.) We would also like to meet our Phase II goals of putting in a snack bar, outfitting the changing rooms with lockers, landscaping the grounds, providing shade structures and installing slide.
Will it be open year 'round?
The Pool will be open at least 6 months of the year. In the future, with the use of geothermal, ideally it could be open all year. Additional funds will need to be secured.
Who will use the pool?
This is a community Pool so it will be open to the public. The intention is to keep entry fees and season’s passes affordable.
Who will operate and maintain the Swim Center?
The City of Calistoga has committed to the future operation and maintenance of the Swim Center.
Will there be parking on the site?
Yes. The parking lot will service both the Swim Center and the ball fields.
